Yes, the UK is not part of the Schengen agreement. You need to apply for a visa.

yep you need a visa don't try without one you will be caught on entry and sent home possibly not allowed back for a very long time or as most people would want those coming here without a visa and that's never allowed back

what country DO you come from? what citizenship DO you have? we cannot answer the question until we know what passport you ARE using.

I didn't like the gifts he sent. What should I say

I didn't like the gifts he sent. What should I say?
Hey everyone. I've been in Austria for work for 6 months. It was my birthday a week ago and my boyfriend had a teddy bear he'd made himself sent over, a pair of ballet slippers, some money and a photo frame with a picture of us in it. The bear was dressed to be a lady farmer and was really cute. He also made a matching male farmer for himself too. When I get back to Australia we're going to live on a farm together. His gifts were okay, but I was expecting something better, nicer and more exclusive like jewelery. What should I say when he calls to ask if I liked the gifts? As you can tell I'm a little dissapointed right now.

Well, this is one of those situations where lying is not bad. It seems to me that he put a lot of thought and effort into what he got you. If you tell him you didn't like it, then he will definitely get upset. Sometimes us guys give great gifts and sometimes we don't. Just remember the old saying about how its the thought that counts. I'm sure it won't always be like that, and if you really care for each other, then gifts should not matter that much.

wear the ballet slippers, they are really comfortable-like soft sole moccasins, you will love them

Moving to Austria: What should an English-speaking American do about jobs, college, getting settled, etc

Moving to Austria: What should an English-speaking American do about jobs, college, getting settled, etc?
I want to move to Austria for a year, perhaps even permanently. I'm 20 and currently have an Associates Degree in Social Science. (I know It isn’t much, but I figure it's helpful if I give a few details about myself.) I'm only fluent in English; I am in the process of learning German but am by no means fluent in it. It is giving me a lot of trouble, I fear I won't fully understand it until I've lived around it. Now I'm aware that you need a visa to live in another country for any long period of time. I also know that in order to gain citizenship in another country you generally have to live there for several years; in Austria I believe it’s five years. What I don’t know is about working and school. I'll need money to live obviously. I'm sure I can find a place to stay, but would an English-speaking American even be able to find a job? If so, what suggestions do you have as to where to look? Also, are there any English-speaking schools I could attend? Any advice or facts would be great!

No. Your only hope is to stay in the US.

I am not sure why you would want to move there I think you will find the barriers to employment are very high for you and being a nongerman speaker you will not be socially accepted
